Companion Lanes

The Companion runs musical lanes beside the immediate harmony engine. Lanes schedule their own notes and own matching releases.

A canon follower can delay, transpose, and time-scale incoming notes.

  • Strict Canon keeps a single pass-through line at the original time ratio.
  • Free Imitation allows broader follower configuration.
  • Delay is measured in transport beats.
  • Transposition is scale-degree based.

A ratio below 1 would require future phrase knowledge and is not used for causal live proportional imitation without phrase capture.

Species controls rhythmic relationship:

Species Relationship
I One generated note per played note
II Two generated notes per played note
III Four generated notes per played note
IV Prepare, suspend, and resolve across the beat

Species II–IV need a reliable beat phase. Start transport and use a steady tempo when evaluating them.

Pattern lanes emit fixed degree, octave, duration, and velocity events on a repeating beat cycle. Pixel Trio uses independent low-support and counterline roles. Patterns are deterministic; they do not recognize your motif or infer song form.

Hold behavior defines how long a lane remains eligible to complete scheduled entries. Forever means scheduled entries can finish; it does not mean notes sustain forever. Every emitted attack still owns a release.

Stop or release the current phrase before disabling a lane, changing its timing, loading another arrangement, or changing transport. Use panic if an external destination missed a release.
