Logic Pro Workflow

Logic uses two different components because a MIDI FX slot does not receive track audio.

MIDI controller or MIDI region

On a software-instrument channel strip:

1. Open MIDI FX.
2. Choose Audio Units → Contrapunk Audio → Contrapunk.
3. Load the instrument after the MIDI FX slot.
4. Record-enable or monitor the track.
5. Play MIDI and confirm generated notes reach the instrument.

Expected path: MIDI FX → Audio Units → Contrapunk Audio → Contrapunk.

Live guitar into Analog Lab V

Route the generated MIDI, not the guitar audio, to Analog Lab:

Guitar → interface → Logic audio track → Contrapunk Guitar
                                      → Contrapunk Guitar MIDI Out
                                      → instrument track → Analog Lab V

1. Create an audio track and set its input to the guitar’s interface channel.
2. Insert Audio FX → Audio Units → Contrapunk Audio → Contrapunk Guitar.
3. Enable input monitoring and confirm the plug-in receives mono or stereo audio.
4. Create a software-instrument track and load Analog Lab V.
5. Open Logic’s MIDI Environment and select the Click & Ports layer.
6. On the Physical Input object, route the individual Contrapunk Guitar MIDI Out port to Sequencer Input.
7. Select or record-enable the Analog Lab track, then play a single note.

The Guitar component passes the track audio while publishing detected and harmonized notes through CoreMIDI. If you only want Analog Lab, lower the guitar track’s fader or use a non-audible output while keeping the track active; muting can suspend Audio FX in some host configurations.

Guitar and routing limits

• Start with a standard-tuned six-string guitar, a dry DI signal, and one note at a time. Chords and polyphonic transcription are not supported.
• Put Contrapunk Guitar before distortion, delay, reverb, chorus, or pitch effects.
• Set enough input gain for clear attacks without clipping, and mute strings that are not being played.
• Establish reliable fretted notes before testing wide bends, heavy vibrato, slides, or legato.
• Do not place the regular Contrapunk MIDI FX before Analog Lab unless you intentionally want a second harmonization pass.
• Never route Contrapunk Guitar MIDI Out back into Contrapunk Guitar; that creates a MIDI loop.
• Logic does not send track audio into MIDI FX. Guitar detection requires the Guitar Audio FX.
• Logic can cache Audio Unit metadata. Restart Logic and rescan Audio Units after changing component versions.

Validation phrase

Use one dry sustained note, wait for its release, then play a slow four-note phrase. Confirm guitar audio continues, pitch appears in the editor, Analog Lab receives the generated notes, every note releases, and no loop or stuck note remains.
